In combat situations, because naval vessels are always exposed to UNDEX loading, the vessels should be able to withstand critical shock wave excitation.
The majority of existing studies about the ship UNDEX simulation have delt with the cases of static and displacement states of the mono-hulls. However, in reality, the most cases of shock attack occur in the moving state of the ship. Therefore, this study employed the ship planing speed to simulate the ship running state, which runs in a straight course, and also conducted the shock simulation on the trimaran multi-hulls.
In the planing state, ship underwent severe trim angle variations, which lead to a variation in the ship wetted area and draft. These two variations caused more severe shock responses than without consideration of the trim angle and draft. Through this study, the ship shock simulation showed that a trim angle can be a new ship design parameter in the UNDEX simulation and showed the relation of the trim angle and structural response appiled to the shock loadings.
