This thesis addresses four types of nonparametric Bayesian approaches for music analysis that discover the latent musical hierarchical structure based on musical components composing music contents. The musical structure is organized in a hierarchicalmanner that the relationships between musical features are represented by musical components, and musical components compose music contents as a mixture of them. As the nonparametric Bayesian approach based on the Dirichlet process provides a prior on the number of musical components that appropriately infer it from the given music collection, we propose models based on it with a topic model to understand the latent musical structure. Moreover, we characterize the musical components by considering all types of the fundamental musical dimensions, which are timbre, rhythm, harmony and melody, to extract the content-based data that represents all perceptual aspects of music contents that are useful information for managing the music collection.
Additionally, we introduce latent musical sub-genres into the musical hierarchical structure
to characterize the sharing properties between musical genres that raise the ambiguity of musical genres. We define the musical sub-genre as the correlations between musical components, and it is also discovered by our proposed approaches. Moreover, we associate musical components and subgenres with musical genres to involve the perceptual properties of musical genres into the musical hierarchical structure, and to resolve their ambiguity.
