Opportunistic spectrum access (OSA) is one of cognitive radio schemes which enhance spectrum efficiency. In OSA, secondary users sense all spectra to identify primary users` carrier. In this case, secondary users need to have complex hardware and energy-inefficient operations. Instead of sensing all spectra, secondary users need a channel selection algorithm to select a spectrum (channel) and have to consider channel utilization of primary users. In this thesis, a random channel selection algorithm is first proposed in a multi-channel environment to reduce the sensing burden for all channels and its performance is mathematically analyzed and evaluated. Under the consideration of channel utilization of primary users, this study uses game theory to analyze the interaction among secondary users who select a spectrum to maximize their performance. To achieve a game-theoretic equilibrium, a game theory-based learning algorithm is applied to the channel selection problem. Each secondary user with the adaptive learning algorithm yield better performance than the random channel selection algorithm.
