Efficient printing processes, called laser-induced thermal spray printing (LITSP), high frequency resistance printing and flow rate control printing (FRCP) are introduced in this study to deposit phosphor layer in discharge cell of PDP. Numerical analysis and experiments are conducted to investigate effects of process parameters in each process.
LITSP is a non-contacting process, which transfers the phosphor paste from donor plate to the substrate by the bubble pressure induced by laser heating. The mechanism of the bubble formation is verified as heterogeneous nucleation due to many micro-cavities on the surface of hole and the proper composition of phosphor paste ejected in spray mode is acquired experimentally.
HFRP is a printing process, which transfers the phosphor paste by bubble pressure induced by locally resistance heating using approximate and skin effect of high frequency current. The phosphor paste is ejected in burst mode because the surrounding surface of hole is heated simultaneously so that the gap between donor plate and substrate has a dominant effect on pattern quality.
FRCP is a printing process, which transfer the phosphor paste using expansion of phosphor paste by gas pressure. Numerical analysis showed that higher viscosity increases the maximum expansion length. Small flow rate and large gap reduces transfer efficiency due to reattached phosphor paste surround hole in donor plate.
Since the phosphor pattern can be formed with high transfer efficiency and fine size, proposed printing processes are applicable to high definition PDP.
