Multichromophoric species are quite interesting because they possess novel luminescent properties as well as intercomponent electron and/or energy transfer processes. So these complexes have received considerable attention for optical applications such as OLEDs(organic light-emitting diodes) and artificial photosynthesis.
Herein, we report new OLED molecular materials based on luminescent Al(III) complexes and BODIPY (4,4-difluoro4-bora-3a,4a-diaza-s-indacene) chromophores. These two classes of luminophore are linked to each other so that interesting luminescent properties are acheived. The Al(III) species include salen $(^tBu)AlX$ and $(mq)_2AlX$ (mq=2-methyl-8-quinolinolato). The explanation of the synthesis, characterization and the spectroscopic properties of the foregoing Al/B based heteronuclear complexes and their potential for OLEDs will be discussed.
