This study reviews general characteristics of credit derivatives of which market is growing rapidly and valuates the theoretical price of a real credit default swap contract. In this study, Hull and White model and Das and Sundaram model is used for valuation among various models. Hull and White model has been widely used and empirically studied with various aspects. And Das and Sundaram model is a general model which can be applied to valuation for various kinds of credit derivatives. The real case in this thesis is the credit default swap contract between financial institutes with maturity of 5 years. The reference entity is KEPCO. And its credit default swap rate is 95bp. This study derived the theoretical price of 99bp and 85bp by Hull and White model and Das and Sundaram model respectively. The implications in this empirical study are followings. First, due to the assumptions about recovery rate, default probability and interest, there can be differences in theoretical prices and real contract prices. In Hull and White model, recovery rate is assumed constant. On the other hand, there is a relationship between interest rate, recovery rate and default probability in Das and Sundaram model. Second, in terms of parameter sensitivity, Hull and White model is more stable than Das and Sundaram model.
