The paper develops conceptual criteria and requirements for evaluating Enterprise Information Portal(EIP) in the context of knowledge management activities such as knowledge creation, sharing, and application. The criteria have been drawn from Activity Theory perspective consisting of actors, community, objects, tools, rules, and division of labor, and the requirements have been derived from extensive literature review and case study.
Case studies are carried out in two companies adopting a holistic approach to find issues in KM activity system. The studies are used to present what the design of next generation of KMS should be with suggestion of future direction of KM.
