Tendon models based on the finite element method, that can represent the interaction between tendon and concrete of prestressed concrete structures, are proposed. First, the bonded tendon model is capable of representing bond at the interface of tendon and concrete. And the unbonded tendon model can represent slip at the interface.
Constitutive law of bonded tendon stiffened by grout is required in the formulation of the softened truss model theory. So the average stress-strain curve of a tendon embedded in concrete is not same as the stress-strain curve of a bare tendon. Based on the bond stress-slip relationship, the apparent yield stress of a embedded tendon is derived for multilinear model described average stress-strain relationship.
In the case of unbonded tendon, the stress increase in an unbonded tendon beyond the effective prestress due to external loading is not section-dependent but member-dependent. Hence, it should be determined from the analysis of deformations of the entire structure, not by strain compatibility as in the case of bonded tendons. Based on the strain reduction factor, the modified stress-strain curve of an unbonded tendon is derived by iterative method.
By using these models, material nonlinear analyses of prestressed concrete structures are conducted. Especially for prestressed concrete reactor containment structure subjected to ultimate pressure, the applicability of proposed models can be shown.
