Classical computers use bit as basic unit of information whereas quantum computers use qubit(two-level system) as that of information. Recently, the higher dimensional system called qudit(system having states >2) has been considered. But little experimental work has been carried out using qudit yet.
We are interested in qutrit which is the three-level system. The greatest advantage of using qutrit compared with qubit is that we can reduce the number of the quantum system, but any universal gate has not been found yet.
In this thesis, we demonstrate experimental realization of qutrit logic by a nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) computer, using quadrupolar nuclei of nitrogen(spin-1) in single crystal of ADP. We prepared the effective pure states and implemented the logic operation that shifts states along a loop │0>→│1>→│2>→│0>.
