It is commonly said that one of the enormous changes in 21st century is the development of IT (information technology) technology. The IT technology took very influential part in our daily life. Nowadays information exchanges though the internet are available almost anywhere in the world. Everybody has their own mobile phones in their hands and lives in their own world. People live in a physical environment called space, and particularly office space is the space where changes of IT technology and society have been affected mostly. Therefore, need for analysis on the interactive elements of office space and research on the trend of space design in the future are necessary.
Therefore, the goal of this study is to implement office space design framework in preparation of standardization and framework of systematically classified office space which was not done in previous research of office environment. This was done by the process of observing and analyzing the formation of office space. In this point of view, three detailed goals of this study are followed.
First, in a field of office research, architecture, psychology, ergonomics and industrial engineering were studied as the basic areas of the space study. After this study, the environmental elements following the present era and the various kind of elements that were taken from office space were studied.
Second, trend of office space was subdivided into several categories and then they were studied.
Through the research on the cases of actual existing office space and documental review, the actual condition of office space was established. After that, the type of classification method for the office space was presented and types of office spaces were classified by the method.
Third, from the fieldwork on actual offices, the classified office space types were verified, and by arranging and summarizing the characteristics, the framework of office space was constructed.
The result of this study is that the study of office space has advanced from human-centered perspective to both environmental and human-centered perspectives. These results made an academic foundation.
