The exponential growth of information within the Web has created an overabundance of information and poverty of human attention, with users citing the inability to navigate and find relevant information on the Web. This is one of the biggest problems facing the Web today. The purpose of this study is to organize and structure information as they relate to the information needs of the users based on the development on the I-Map system on the World Wide Web (WWW).
This study is conducted to develop an organization of information and how the information relates to needs of the user. By analyzing the user information needs and emphasizing the users' roles is useful to distinguish between the diverse users who will perform the task of constructing information on the web. This will contribute towards the success of ensuring effective access to the information of the website providing benefits of a user centric information architecture that will give direct control to the users. To explore the layout of the relationships in a more objective manner, we use a layout matrix of the user information needs that couples the organizational behavior with ways on how users navigate through the structure of the information. We specify the user information needs that put the user at the center of the process to practice the case study and then synthesize the consequences of this study using an inquiry model. Through the main findings of this study, we can correlate the organization of information with users navigating through the structures.
From the result of this study, we can quickly and systematically explore the user in a limited set of layouts that covers the way users prefer to organize information on the Web. Through the results of the presented system has shown that it is increasingly important to adopt the user information needs to sort out the information in an interaction complexity environment for our intended users.
정보화 시대로의 변화는 최근 몇 년 동안 정보를 체계적으로 조직화하는 문제에 관심을 집중하게 했으나, 기존의 웹사이트들의 정보구조체계가 사용자의 사용성에 초점을 맞추지 않아 어려움을 겪고 있는 실정이다. 이것은 사용자가 그 사이트에서 찾고자 하는 정보니즈에 대한 사용자 중심적인 구조를 정확하게 파악하지 못하기 때문이다. 정보를 구조화하기 어렵게 만드는 원인은 정보를 분류하는 체계에 따라 특정한 정보를 어떻게 분류할 것인가가 모호하다는 것이다. 즉, 사용자에 따라 정보니즈 (Information Needs)를 분류하는 기준을 어떻게 잡을 것인가가 문제된다. 특히 분류하는 기준을 더욱 어렵게 만드는 요소는 정보를 분류하는 것이 웹 사이트를 운영하는 디자이너, 웹마스터, 프로그래머와 같은 사람이 아닌 사용자의 입장에서 이루어져야 하고 사용자들이 이 정보를 쉽게 찾을 수 있도록 해야 한다는 점이다.
일반적으로 웹사이트는 그 크기에 관계없이 다양한 종류의 정보를 제공하는데 이들 정보를 사용자가 가장 인식하기 쉽게 정리된 정보니즈에 따라 그 구조를 체계화할 필요가 있다. 이처럼 정보환경에서 디지털 형태로 구성되어 있는 정보를 사용자가 수월하게 인지하도록 하기 위하여 정보니즈와 정보의 관계를 통해 인포메이션 아키텍쳐(Information Architecture)의 정보구조 시스템을 바탕으로 더욱 효과적인 체계를 구성해야 할 것이다. 정보의 체계가 제대로 되지 않고는 좋은 사용자 인터페이스도 기대하기 어렵다. 정보구조체계가 잘 정립된 웹사이트는 사용자로 하여금 자신이 원하는 정보에 쉽게 접근할 수 있도록 함으로써 편안한 상태에서 이용할 수 있도록 지원하기 때문이다.
이에 본 연구에서는 위와 같은 웹 환경의 배경을 바탕으로 사용단계에서의 정보니즈에 따른 접근으로 새로운 인포메이션 아키텍쳐에서 정보의 특성에 따라 정보를 세분화하고 조직화하며 정보와 사용자의 연관성을 고려하여 효율적으로 정보구조를 체계화하는 방법을 모색한다. 그리고 이를 활용할 수 있는 정보구조체계를 효과적으로 체계화할 수 있도록 새로운 정보구조체계의 사례를 개발하는 것을 연구의 목표로 한다.
