The human computer interaction has gone through diverse changes along with the technical progress of computers. With the spread of the world wide web, attempts of various forms and methods of interactions reflecting the characteristics of the web are being made. Among the diverse concepts of interaction, Conversational Agent uses a character as the visual perceptional object and through the interaction based on conversation it suggests a natural, human, intuitive interaction. However the existing studies on conversational agent have focused on the realization, the practical use is still in the experimental stage. Furthermore, the existing conversational agents used on the web is limited and dependent on it’s interaction and the application is limited to a small part of the website. Consequently, the user cannot experience an active interaction with the agent and it is not proper to be applied in continuous use.
Therefore, the goal of this study is to suggest conversational agent as a more actively applied object on a web site. In this study, Conversational Agent was suggested and applied on a cyber lecture website and the appropriateness was verified. To propose a proper conversational agent on web site, the concept and characteristic of a conversational agent was studied, and by analyzing the existing conversational agent, the direction of the study on conversation was set. Secondly, the fundamental structure and method needed in constructing a conversation was examined through the study on conversation. After that the characteristics of the conversation used on the web was identified and hereby and the coherence and conversation structure was deducted. After the characteristics of the conversational agent were observed, it was applied to the previously deducted website’s logical connection and conversation structure. Lastly, the conversational agent suitable for the web site was proposed and realized. After realizing the suggested conversational agent on the cyber lecture website, the appropriateness was verified by valuating it by categories of the conversational agent characteristic and interaction. For further studies, there are study on the development type and method of an appropriate character, which can be recognized as a conversational object and study on web minning techniques for various composition of conversation in depth.
