The electronic products such as a notebook PC are mainly composed of structural parts and electric parts. In the developing phase, the structural parts have following characteristics: 1) the preparations of molds (or dies) are needed, 2) the engineering change orders are frequently issued between the set-maker and suppliers, 3) the volumes of design information are transmitted.
Recently, many companies implement B2B information systems for improving their competitiveness. However, most commercial B2B solutions only support limited functions such as procurement/fulfillment processes for mass production and the B2B solutions, supporting transactions between the set-maker and suppliers in the developing phase, are uncommon and immature.
This thesis proposes a RUP based methodology for designing business architectures of a B2B information system that supports the developing transactions of the structural parts in electronic industry. The procedure of a business architecture design is as follows: 1) business modeling, 2) requirements analysis, 3) business architecture design, and 4) verification of the business architecture. This thesis also presents two application plans for 1) implementing a B2B system based on the proposed business architectures and the RosettaNet (industrial de facto standard for B2B transactions), 2) extending application areas to the other domains.
