As Internet demand increases, many sophisticated Internet connection technologies have emerged. Especially in Korea, ADSL is the most widely accepted technology and the market is growing extremely fast. In the second half of 2000, the proportion of Korean ADSL market reaches to 54 percents of the world market.
Such a great success of ADSL in Korea can be explained by various factors. In this paper, we identify critical success factors that led the success of Korean ADSL market, and investigate the relationships among factors. In order to verify our research framework, we employ industry analysis and system dynamics simulation.
By deep analysis of industry, we find out that critical success factors can be decomposed into three categories, namely, product characteristics factor, company' s decision factor, and the government' s role factor. And by employing system dynamics simulation, we derive following conclusions. First, the government' s role should be separated into two types: direct support such as financial investment and indirect support such as government policy. These two types of role affect market growth by different pathway. Second, the company' s attitude of accepting the recognized market risk is important factor of market growth.
인터넷의 수요가 증가함에 따라 다양한 인터넷 접속기술들이 등장하게 되었다. 특히 한국에서는 ADSL 기술이 대표적인 접속기술로 등장하여 매우 빠른 속도로 성장하였다.
한국에서 이처럼 ADSL 기술이 빠르게 성장한게 된 요인들은 여러가지가 있을 것이다. 본 연구에서는 이처럼 빠른 시장성장을 유도한 요인들을 찾아내고 이러한 요인들 간의 관계를 규명하고자 한다. 이를 위해서 본 연구에서는 산업분석과 시스템다이나믹스 시뮬레이션을 방법론으로 채택하였다.
산업분석을 통해 ADSL 시장의 성장의 주요 요인 들을 제품요인, 기업의 의사결정요인, 정부의 역할 요인으로 묶을 수 있었다. 여기에 더하여 시스템다이나믹스 시뮬레이션을 통해 다음과 같은 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 정부의 역할 요인은 크게 두 가지로 나뉠 수 있다. 재정적 투자와 같은 직접지원과 정책요인 등의 간접지원이 그것인데 이러한 두 형태의 정부의 역할은 각각 다른 경로로 시장에 영향을 미친다는 것이다. 둘째, 기업의 위험수용성향 또한 시장성장에 핵심적인 영향을 주고 있다.
