As demands of TFT LCDs increase rapidly TFT LCD industry has grown 30% continuously a year during the last 7 years. But the Change speed in the LCD industry environment is more fast, the competition among panel companies is more intense. The aggressive investment of US and Taiwanese companies which entered TFT LCD market lately threatens Japanese and Korean leading companies now.
In order to quickly respond to environment change and to get high profit, we have competitive advantage of manufacturing cost through leading the standardization in TFT LCD industry. The most important thing to do that is to formulate standardization strategies which are appropriate to industry environment and retained resources.
This paper studies the TFT LCD industry standardization mechanism which started in 1991 and analyzes the decision making variables of panel maker, equipment maker and computer maker for standardization. As the result of this research this paper develops the framework of five standardization strategies based on industry environment and resources.
If TFT LCD makers use this framework for formulating standardization strategies they will do business effectively and efficiently in TFT LCD industry.
