Porter`s five forces model has been used extensively to analyze industry competition and develop strategies in the traditional economy. The development of information technology has been argued to change the traditional economy to the information economy. E-business is built up over digital communication network and therefore, is subject to the information economy rather than the traditional economy.
This thesis proposes an analytical methodology to analyze the strategic impact of E-business on an industry. For concreteness, this methodology is applied to examine it in Korea health care industry. The methodology includes a modified network competition model to determine the state of competition in the industry influenced by E-business and to develop E-business strategies so that a firm can enhance competitive advantages of E-business against other forces.
Porter의 모델은 산업의 경쟁 관계를 분석하고 기업의 경쟁 전략을 수립하는데 광범위하게 사용되어 왔다. 정보기술의 발달은 과거 산업 경제 환경을 새로운 정보 경제 환경, 신경제로 바꾸고 있다는 주장이 있어왔다. 따라서, E-business는 전자통신망을 기반으로 구축외기 때문에 구경제보다는 정보경제의 영향을 받을 것이다.
본 논문에서는 E-business로 인해서 산업에 미치는 전략적인 영향을 분석할 수 있는 분석방법론을 제시하고 있다. 이를 뒷받침하기 위해, 한국의 의료산업을 사례로 적용을 시도하고 있다. 이 방법론에는 Porter의 모델을 변형해서 네트웍 경쟁 모델로 제시하고 있다. 이 모델은 E-business의 영향을 받게 되는 산업에서의 경쟁 상태를 설명하고, 경쟁우위를 증대할 수 있는 방향으로 E-business 전략을 수립하는데 쓰일 수 있다.
