A link level simulator is developed to evaluate the reverse link performance of the FDD component of UMTS, based on the WCDMA access technique. Simulation results are given for different data rate services: 12.2kbps, 144kbps, and 384kbps. The performance is evaluated in terms of the bit error rate and the block erasure rate. Results are also provided as a function of the $E_b/I_o$ ratio and the mobile speed. The effects of two power-control schemes are compared. The simulator can be utilized to obtain the optimal system parameters in the UMTS WCDMA system.
