Network Virtual Reality(NVR) is 3D virtual environments where multiple participants connected on a network share information and interact with each other. Results of the research on NVR have been applied to many areas such as simulation, industrial design, education, entertainment, military, and medical care. Many NVR systems were developed as research on NVR was continued. It is very important to consider interaction to develop NVR application. Although numerous NVR systems have been designed and developed, only a few systems are practically used to develop the actual applications. This is due the fact that the interaction is poorly supported.
This paper proposes a protocol and a generic NVR platform focused on interaction. Interaction Transmission Protocol(ITP) defines the primitive data types. The Interaction Descriptor defines and describes interaction. ITP offers the extendability to define and transmit various interactions on the application level. We developed Net-Kitten system which is a generic NVR platform with the proposed ITP. This system helps the application developers to define various interactions for the application. It provide a basis to develop NVR application more effectively. To verify our concept, we developed Virtual Assembly which is a concurrent car-concept designing tool.
