Knowledge management has emerged as critical in allowing companies to achieve a competitive advantage. Motivation of this study on knowledge sharing is to identify which are facilitating factors for knowledge sharing in Korean companies.
The main objectives of this study are how much Korean companies are prepared for knowledge management and what the relationships between influencing factors such as organizational culture, executive leadership, information technology, knowledge management support organization arrangement, reward system, and knowledge characteristics and knowledge sharing are.
An empirical study was undertaken to test hypotheses using data collected from 59 Korean companies. Correlation analysis, ANOVA, and regression were employed to test hypotheses and conducted for further analyses.
The major findings of this study are; 1) organizational culture, executive leadership, formal organizational arrangement, reward system, and knowledge characteristics are significantly correlated with knowledge sharing, 2)vertical trust, trust for managers, and reward are important facilitator, and 3)among various rewards, personnel evaluation and promotion is the most important in knowledge sharing. Monetary reward is less important relatively.
Tested model and the status of knowledge sharing in three Korean companies were also described for proliferation of knowledge sharing study.
