The stimulated Brillouin scattering reflectivity in FC-75 index matching oil medium and the characteristics of the oscillator with stimulated Brillouin scattering phase conjugation mirror (i.e. SBS-PCM) are investigated.
Stimulated Brillouin scattering is the light scattering phenomenon due to the density fluctuation of the medium produced by the optically induced electrostriction forces. The stimulated Brillouin scattering results in phase conjugation mirror effect, pulse compression, beam smoothing effect, and etc.. By these effects, stimulated Brillouin scattering can be applied to increase the efficiency of the solid state laser system with high repetition rate and high-power.
To fabricate an oscillator with stimulated Brillouin scattering phase conjugation mirror(SBS-PCM), several limitations should be overcome. Major limitations of them are low reflectivity and low breakdown threshold. In this experiment, fluorinert FC-75 is used as a medium which was found to be an ideal one for high-power stimulated Brillouin scattering experiments. This experimental results show that both reflectivity and breakdown threshold of FC-75 index matching oil are increased by purification. FC-75 gives high reflectivity, over 90%, and excellent fidelity in phase conjugation of $Nd^{+3}$:YAG laser, at single mode more than multimode.
Also, output chzaracteristics of the oscillator using SBS-PCM are investigated.
