The Fe(Ⅲ) dimer, $[Fe_2(tren)_2(pdc)O](CF_3SO_3)_2$ (4, tren = tris(2-amino-ethyl)ethylendiamine, pdc = 3,4-pyridinedicarboxylate) has been prepared and characterized by IR, UV/VIS and single crystal X-ray crystallography. X-ray structural analysis reveals that the two Fe atoms are bonded by oxo group and unidentate pdc group. Other Fe coordination sites are all bonded by N atoms of tetradentate ligand, tren. This is the first example of the Fe(Ⅲ) dimer which contains dicarboxylate ligand, pdc and oxo group.
Another Fe(Ⅲ) complex, $[Fe_2(tren)_2(etm)O]_n(CF_3SO_3)_{2n}$ (1, etm = bis[(ethylthio)methylene]malonate and $[Fe_2(aepn)_2(mtm)O]_n(CF_3SO_3)_{2n}$ (2, aepn = bis(2-aminoethyl)-1,3-propanediamin, mtm = bis[(ethylthio)-methylene]malonate) was prepared and characterized by IR. IR spectrum shows that 1 and 2 has μ-oxo and μ-carboxylato group. Compared with IR spectrum of $[Fe_2(tren)_2(mtm)O]_n(Cl)_n(CF_3SO_3)_n$ which has 1-D chatin structure, the structures of 1, 2 are expected to be 1-D chain sturcuture.
