Video browsing, that enables to retrieve certain scenes in a video data stream, is getting important as the digital video becomes widely used. The VCR-like sequential scanning, which is a traditional video browsing scheme, and the static presentation of keyframes have been studied in the past. Recently, the hierarchical video browsing based on the temporal relationship among video shots and the scene-based browsing are actively studied. In this thesis, we first investigate the existing browsing techniques in detail. Then, we propose and implement the ST browsing scheme which is a hybrid of the hierarchical and the scene-based video browsing, to retrieve directly a certain scene in video clips, and at the same time to see the overall shot flow like the hierarchical browsing. In addition, the result of browsing is stored as a visual summary.
