The Internet, world-wide network of networks, has rapidly developed because of its characteristics such as open system structure and various available application services. In the developed countries such as U.S. and Japan, for deploying their information networks, broadband network development based on the Internet has been adapted as a key strategic policy.
In Korea, an ATM network based on B-ISDN has been adapted for developing the super-high way information network. Before the completion of the ATM network, there could be an way for Korea Telecom(KT) to provide broadband network services to users.
KT operates many independent data networks such as KORNET, HiNET-P, KT CO-LAN, PSTN, ISDN and so forth. These data networks deliver only simple transmission network functions. But, in order to get a competitive edge, KT should provide users with integrated data network services which make the scattered data networks easily interconnecting.
In this context, this study suggests an Efficient Interconnection Platform which provide internetworking and interworking between KORNET providing KT's Internet services and the KT's independent data networks. The suggested Platform model considers the user environment construction which is based on an open network systems between KORNET and the KT's independent data networks. With this suggested Platform, KT delivers the efficient and convenient Internet services to the business and individual users.
Chapter 2 investigates the appearance of OSI system and Chapter 3 researches construction of TCP/IP protocol begun from Internet. Chapter 4 shows internetworking system architecture between KORNET and various data networks. Chapter 5,6 suggests the optimal interconnection Platform frame to KORNET and data networks
