Information Technology has been used as a strategic weapon beyond the means of the business automation and the increase of productivity. Many companies have increased the investment on Information Technology. As a result, the investment and its justification have drawn great attention to the information systems managers. But the evaluation of system effectiveness is difficult due to its multidimensionality, its quantitative and qualitative aspects and the multiple evaluator viewpoints.
The purpose of this study is to measure the corporate information systems and propose the future information systems policy through comparing those of competitive companies. To do this, evaluation model of the corporate information systems was suggested. The evaluation model comprises 10 evaluation variables and 96 evaluation items that were derived from considering characteristics of telecommunication service. And this evaluation model was implemented in telecommunication industry.
This study showed that the difference among corporate information systems of telecommunication companies was not large because new entry companies into telecommunication industry have invested on information technology. But there were differences in some evaluation variables of corporate information systems. Especially the difference of information strategy variable is very large. As a result of this fact it is recommended that companies should focus on strengthening the information strategy in order to enhance their corporate information systems.
