The environment of project is become more complicate and riskier ever than before. Continuous downsizing of organization, global competition, demographic changes of workforce and cultural changes make leadership demand more complicated and varied. To overcome these risks many organization introduce new management concept as project management. Project Management Institutes defined project phase to manage project more effectively and new studies suggested dynamic roles of project manager accordong to the project phase.
There is also uncertainty and risk in the engineering project of plant construction according to the recent changes of project environment but there is no enough theory on the engineering project and especially in the position of engineering company. This study explores how to manage plant construction project more efficient in the position of engineering company. Considerable differences in the engineering project were found ,and this study suggests new concept of project life cycle from the begining of quotation to the dissolution of project organization and new distinctive method of project phase with critical event on the major milestone. 5 step of project phase is proposed: formation phase, planning pahse, developing phase, excuting phase and finishing phase.
This study also suggests ten(10) different roles which project manager provide during the project life cycle: decision maker, negotiator, planner, facilitator, integrator, coordinator, monitor, resource distributor, problem solver and mentor. These roles should disploy differently based on the project phase and make project success easier and more effective.
