The main objectives of this study are doing scientometric analysis and evaluating ERC, SRC proposals. Korea has been developed by industrial technology and has good applied technologies. But in the fields of basic science Korea do not have satisfactory performances. So if Korea is to develop basic science, an analysis of science is needed. Korea Science & Engineering Foundation (KOSEF) is starting support to research groups and quantitative analysis of these groups is important.
The methodologies used in this study are quantitative analyses of science - scientometrics. In the part of analyzing Korea's scientific situation, Lotka's Law, Publication Potential etc. were tested. Evaluating ERC, SRC proposals, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were used.
Data were collected through SCI(1970-1987) and ERC,SRC proposals. ERC, SRC proposals include 3,940 researcher's individual records.
The important results of this study are as follows :
1. Korean researcher's publication structure well meets lotka's law.
2. The number of Korean researchers' publications is far behind expected.
3. Quality of department of doctoral training, research environment, and number of research assistants are important factors influencing scientists' productivity
