Based on the proposed research model and propositions, case studies and investigations of the 80 cases which the A Co(Korean construction Co.) executed from 1988 to 1997 were carried out.
Through the analysis of the data, this study suggests the followings.
First of all, in the analysis of the interrelation of the motivation and types, the motivation for management is related to the administration alliance, the motivation for the technological skills to technology alliance, the motivation for the project to operation alliance. The results of this study show that the alliance types are different according to each motivation.
Second, in the analysis of the performance of each alliance, the level of performance is generally low at all alliances, and the technological skills are commonly improved which is not characteristic of each alliance. The results of this study show that the management and practical use of the alliance is not effective.
Third, in the analysis of the KSFs of each alliance, the supporting of top management, selection of appropriate partners, understanding of the purpose of the alliance and the ability to handle international communications are commonly suggested as the KSFs. Specially, the ability to handle the cultural difference and the core competencies of firms are important factors at the operation alliance.
In conclusion, to get the desirable performance by strategic alliance, we have to suplement the above KSFs in priority as well as to manage and use the alliance systematically.
Further research with various firms and more elaborated research will be required to improve the results of this study.
