In this paper, a new approach for scanning line rate conversion (NTSC to HDTV) in pixel-shifted CCD camera is presented. Pixel-shifted means G and R/B are separated by 1 pixel. It is known that the zigzag interpolation which is a kind of line copy in shifted CCD raster achieves better performance than the line-copy in normal CCD. The former has similar effect which the latter has when interpolating using field memory. Under such an advantage interpolation filter can be developed by adding nonlinear property such as edge detection and interpolation along the edge direction. There are many studies about nonlinear filters where motion detection or edge detection is used. Temporal correlation like motion is not considered here because no field memory is used but a few line memory. So proposed method is an edge adaptive interpolation filter. PSNR of proposed method is 29.12dB which is greatest among algorithms in this paper.
