A new inkjet printhead using single crystalline silicon as a heating resistor was proposed and fabricated. The proposed inkjet printhead has the structure where a single crystalline island formed by utilizing the characteristics of the porous silicon is used as a heating resistor. Considering the current- direction-dependent characteristics of the porousizing process, an n-type single crystalline island can be obtained by intentionally making the current path parallel to the horizontal direction of the wafer, which is possible by using p+/n+ double diffusion process. The process needed to form a single crystalline resistor becomes rather simple, and so does that of forming its protection layer since the thermally oxidized layer can be used for its protection. Furthermore, sicne p+/n+ double diffusion unit process can be properly incorporated into the CMOS process, the high resolution inkjet printhead fabrication where the integrated switching circuit is indispensable is expected to be simplified, hence desirable also in terms of cost.
