As network continues remarkable growth, the need for efficient and favorable human-to-human interaction method increases. To meet the need, applications like e-mail, news and others are developed in various networks. Videoconferencing is a kind of these applications to communicate with one another without face-to-face meeting. MBone is a testbed of IP multicast. IP Multicast provides one-to-many and many-to-many network delivery services for applications such as videoconferencing. The current MBone applications suffer from lack of bandwidth and QoS. As a result, the quality of audio and that of video are below our expectation. The resolution of video image is too low especially for interactive remote lecture. The quality of audio is phone quality. This paper proposes High Performance MBone, a next step of MBone environment to solve these intrinsic problems of current MBone environment.
A videoconferencing system was implemented for interactive remote lecture based on this high performance MBone environment.
