Using virtual reality technology participants coming from different site can share visual environments and interact with others sharing information in 3 dimensional virtual environments. Getting information in virtual environments should be easy and intuitive enough to catch its meanings. In this thesis, we propose three database retrival methods to take information as possible as natural. To test these proposed methods we implemented information retrieval system using virtual reality authoring toolkits. This system supports representation of graphical and textual objects in 3 dimensional space.
This paper presents three proposed database retrieval methods and its implementations. First one is a construction of query interface which provides widget based interface panel to database. Another is a inventory navigation in which database system is represented as a information inventory and participants get information through currently visited inventory search path. The other is a query network which constructs a schema tree to get SQL-type query language for relational database system. These proposed methods are verified by access of on-line library database system serviced by Kordic in shared virtual environments.
