The evolution of computing environments caused various changes in our society. The change of instruction media is one of these effects. WWW using network technology is regarded as a powerful tool for remote instruction. Remote instruction using network can be classified into three types. One is by using WWW, another is by computer communication service companies, and the third is by video conferencing. The methods of utilizing network technologies in design instruction and design process could be diversified comparing with those of other general instruction. Computer graphics has been regarded as a very useful design tool for its accuracy and rapidity. But there is a possibility that it could be used as a creative tool to support idea generation. Network can help us to do creative work using computer graphics. The merits of this technology are sharing resources and making it easy to collaborate. Recent computer graphics instruction has some defects in contents and methods. The contents have a weak relationship with other industrial design subjects, and the instruction methods have remained same even though computer has very different features as to other design media. So we have to use proper methods, contents, and tools to achieve computer graphics instruction objectives. Network can be a possible solution to theses problems. From the above background, the purpose of this thesis is to make network based instruction frameworks.
For instruction structure, network helps multi-step process in design works. This structure enables students to have opportunities for revision of their work and for getting idea from other classmates' works. For the feasibility of working, virtual gallery and whiteboard can be modified to fit computer graphics instruction. Virtual gallery using WWW can be a cyberspace where the evaluation of results and the exchange of information take place. Whiteboard is one of the communication media using graphic and text data. These tools make it easier to communicate and collaborate with classmates. Casestudy was carried out for three different working mode. Prestudy, 'Composition with basic objects' was executed by individual for distributed asynchronous mode. Then 'Image processing subject' for distributed asynchronous and synchronous mode and '3D modeling & animation subject' for distributed synchronous mode were carried out. The results of this thesis are summarized for four factors. First, it was easy to transform idea. Second, student-oriented working was performed. Third, interaction among students was activated. Fourth, not only final results, but also midterm results was considered for evaluation. These methods also have many problems as recent instruction methods do. But, it could be used as a instruction tool to compensate for existing instruction methods.
