Flow similar to the Hartmann-Sprenger tube but having reduced parameters is produced by impinging a travelling shock wave into a cavity in the shock tube. The present flow has a resonance, although decaying with time, awarding simpler model flow for the cyclic air breathing phenomenon of the tube.
Holographic interferometry together with the CFD techniques used in this paper have proved truly powerful in analyzing the flow structure of the jet-regurgitant resonant flow.
