Different automation devices have their own formats of communication or their own formats of model definition. To realize a computer integrated manufacturing(CIM) system, interface technologies like as the STEP and the CORBA will play the key role. In the this thesis, a STEP database has been constructed and several core technologies have been studied for the purpose of implementing a STEP database retrieving system. The CORBA middleware for distributed objects integration, the ST-ORACLE for implementing the STEP database, and the STEP database retrieving system on the internet using the JAVA are the main components. To apply the STEP database to an industry example, the STEP AP203 model of a heavy loading industrial vehicle has been used. The model data has been stored in the STEP database. And the STEP model is retrieved by the system implemented using the CORBA and the JAVA. CORBA application objects, which retrieves the STEP database which is programmed using JAVA, can be browsed on an Internet application like as the Netscape Web Browser.
