For mobile multimedia services, wireless ATM (Asynchronous transfer Mode) network is an important issue. In wireless ATM network, the existing signaling protocols causes high traffics for HLR due to the centralized structure that all signaling loads must be handled in HLR (Home Location registor). Also, the heavy traffic on the centralized structure causes critical connection setup delays. On the other hand, wireless ATM reduces the connection setup delays caused by the high traffic loads of signaling, using of distributed processing. In this thesis, we propose a cache strategy for call delivery and ATM multicasting for cache update in registration. This thesis compares the performance of cache scheme with that of a conventional scheme. We consider the queuing effect of the HLR, and an arbitrary distribution for the portable residence time. In addition, we analyze the performance of proposed algorithm, and perform computer simulation. Our study shows that our cache scheme has better performance than the conventional methods. Especially, our cache scheme is likely to outperform the conventional scheme when the portable mobility is low with respect to the call arrival rate.
