In the engineering industry, it is very important to develop new business in order to make continuous growth and to reduce business risk. Because unlike the other industries, engineering industry's demands rely upon investment scale of facilities of other industries.
In this thesis I made a model of new business development process for the engineering industry combining the general business development model and distinctive characteristics of engineering industry.
This model emphasizes on analyzing the customer's needs and technology capabilities as an important factor to seize a new business opportunity. It emphaszes on the necessity to get an organization members' common understanding of the new business at the screening stage. At the stage of organization design, it is necessary to adapt flexible formation of development organization for rapid progress of the new business and the effecient use of resources. Technology is one of the most important factors on successful new business development for the engineering industry. In this thesis, I classified the types of engineering technology and proposed the strategies to acquire required technology.
