Since the Industrial Revolution, world economy has accomplished rapid development, but the "growth first" in economic activities has brought about environmental destruction and exhaustion of resources. Now the environmental problems have significant impacts upon human life so that Environmentally Sound and Sustainable Development(ESSD) has become a new global economic paradigm of the 21C. The economic order requires sound Environmental Management, new development strategy, that links trade and environment.
With this background Introduction, systematic adaptation to environmental management and an adaptation situation in the management site are made in this study. In addition to give a practical assistance to the petrochemical industry, we assess achievement level of environmental management of the specific petrochemical company(B co.), a leader company of Environment Management in Korea, based on Environmental Self-Assessment Program(ESAP) is assessed. And the strength and weakness, and a suggestion how to improve Environmental Management are made. ESAP is a program that can assess the Environmental Management level of company, and a bit more detailed analysis is made.
Through this assessment, B co. has strength in the corporate priority and employee education, weakness in the prior assessment, customer advice and research are found. These findings may be extended to the petrochemical industry due to the common nature of industry characteristics.
