The mechanical properties of the newly developed carbon/carbon composite material are measured for the design and analysis of carbon/carbon brake disks. The measured properties are the strength and stiffness for tensile, compressive, and shear loading in each desired direction. The interlaminar tensile test was performed by self-aligned test fixture for aligning the specimen with loading direction. Since there is no reinforcement in the thickness direction, the interlaminar tensile and shear strengthes of the carbon/carbon brake disk are significantly lower than its interlaminar compressive strength. The loading fixture was designed for the static strength test of a single carbon/carbon brake disk, using finite element analysis. Static strength test of carbon/carbon brake disk was done.
