A spatial development of the free surface wave which is generated from the semi-infinite plate is examined by linear analysis. The flow is assumed to be two dimensional, inviscid, irrotational, and incompressible.
Time periodic solution was gained directly by assuming that the entire flow field oscillates with forced frequency ω.
When forced frequency ω is given, wave numbers at far boundary are calculated by use of the dispersion relation. Spatial development of surface shape has been obtained by numerical analysis. The numerical results show that the wave numbers far from the edge of the plate coincide with those obtained by dispersion relation.
