The extents of absorption and transmittance of light that pass through some material are different as the wavelength of the light is varied, and which makes it possible to estimate characteristics of the material. Spectrometer is a measurement system that can analyze those characteristics of materials by using this principle. Its application field is wide that it could be applied to all the areas that are concerned with analyzing materials, that is, biological, environmental, medical and chemical area etc.
In the research, it is focused on developing grating precision driving mechanism of monochromator which is the most important part in spectrometers. It is designed to have optical resolution of 1nm and wavelength reproducibility less than 0.1nm, and also designed to be simple, stable, and having high performances. Performance evaluation is achieved by a standard sample provided by KRISS by comparing experimental results with standard values.
It results in wavelength accuracy of ±0.5nm. Also, it is achieved to derive basic principles : it should be aligned with a condition that β, the angle between grating normal and grating rod should be the same as γ, the one between moving nut's normal and sliding guide for the precision sine drive of monochromator. Conclusively, such a condition is inevitible in designing the precision sine drive mechanism, and from which design flexibility in manufacturing monochromators could be obtained for further research.
