In recent years, as the multimedia technology is advanced and internet is expanded, many new multimedia services are required for both commercial and non-commercial use. And many multimedia service systems have been being studied and implemented. However, since servers for multimedia service are currently implemented on GPOS(General Purpose Operating System), it is difficult to support multimedia data's characteristics.
In this thesis, we implement a thread package for multimedia server application which satisfies multimedia data's requirement on GPOS and show that our thread package satisfies requirements for multimedia server application and has no but little overhead.
Our thread package is implemented on GPOS and need no kernel modification or real-time kernel support. We use POSIX1003.1c pthread standard for interface and implement EDF(Earliest Deadline First) scheduler and mechanism for dynamic quality of service control.
The applications of our thread package are all servers implemented on GPOS but especially medium-sized multimedia server system and personal server system.
