The use of ATM technology in broadband signaling networks may be used to provide reliable signaling transport because the ATM broadband capabilities could be used to support fast and vastly expanding signaling applications. This paper presents how ATM technology could improve the performance of existing Common Channel Signaling System such as No.7. As various conventional land mobile networks evolve into broadband multimedia networks, cell size is changed from macro cell to micro or pico cell. Then, in this paper registration event in micro cell environments is considered. In the case that registration event occurs frequently because of large mobility, the delay time of existing Common Channel Signaling No.7 is exponentially increased. However, the delay time of the ATM-based signaling network is smaller than that of CCS No.7. because the ATM-based signaling network has the distributed architecture network using based on multicasting technolgy. Especially, compared with CCS No.7, ATM-based signaling network has better performance in the case that registration events occurs heavily in specified cells.
