Recently, the group-supported application which helps geographically distributed users to collaborate through computers and network has been studied widely. In most researches, the electronic document for collaboration work has a system-dependent data format. Thus, they do not have compatibility with other systems. This paper presents a new shared lecture space for tele-teaching by using HTML (HyperText Markup Language) as a data format. The main advantage of using HTML for lecture space is a system-independent document format which could be used in other application.
The lecture space consistes of class control, document retrieval and shared whiteboard. They are designed by the method of event-sharing and distributed control. They are implemented by Visual C++ for use in MS-Windows95 based personal computers. Test results of the implemented lecture system are shown for traditional LAN and ATM-LAN of different communication protocols. The systems are found to work correctly for text and video data.
