In this thesis, I have studied for the method how to sustain inter-connectivity and interoperability among multi-carrier servicing provider during network evolution from PSTN, narrow-band ISDN to Broadband ISDN. The one of inter-working methodology is concentrated method using single access platform for all accessed network and the other is distributed method using multiple distributed access platforms which are connected to each accessed networks. Then, as internal queuing algorithm of access platform, RR(Round Robin), EDF(Earliest Deadline First) and MEDF(Modified Earliest Deadline First) algorithms are used. According to simulation results, MEDF algorithm has better performance than other scheduling algorithms in view of delay and throughput because of priority as well as specific function to prevent excess blocking rate of non-real time traffic. Also, we can see that the distributed inter-working method is more efficient than centralized inter-working method because of load sharing.
Finally, the distributed access platform using MEDF scheduling could be used for inter-working between B-ISDN and other conventional networks such as PSTN, PSPDN and digital CATV.
