The effect of rubber compounding additives on adhesion of aramid tire cords treated with epoxy/resorcinol-formaldehyde-latex adhesives were investigated using 2-ply peel adhesion test. The retained adhesion of aramid cords was determined after heat-aging of cord-rubber samples at elevated temperature. Generally, adhesion showed a linear decrease with increase of rubber stock modulus. The adhesion of aramid cords was influenced much by the sort of ingredients for rubber compounding. Carbon black with less-developed structure and smaller particle size gave better adhesion of aramid cords to rubber. Normal sulfur showed better adhesion than insoluble sulfur. Rubber stocks containing benzothiazyl disulfide(MBTS) showed excellent original adhesion and retained adhesion of aramid cords to rubber. It seems that process oil has a little effect on adhesion of aramid cords to rubber. Aramid cords treated with epoxy/resorcinol-formaldehyde-latex adhesives showed very good rubber coverage after 2-ply peel adhesion test.
