Recently, a new multiprocessor system, called LAMP(Local Area MultiProcessor), was proposed in the need of rapidly increasing demand for high performance multiprocessor. In this thesis, we propose a SCI bus bridge for a high performance LAMP system using SCI. SCI is an IEEE standard(P1596) about interconnections between nodes in the multiprocessor systems.
The proposed SCI bus bridge is designed as an interface between PCI bus and SCI. For massive data transfer, we include DMA controller in the SCI bus bridge, and our mailbox system enables fast interrupt transfer. We choose an address translation table for efficient address translation, and support read/write/lock_sb and dmove64 SCI transactions. And we propose a pure H/W atomic operation for fast synchronization in LAMP system using SCI.
The proposed SCI bus bridge is implemented and verified using VHDL. Not only taking the advantages of existing SCI bus bridge features, but also we implement faster and more efficient pure H/W atomic operation for synchronization.
